Junior Year Experiences
National Honor Society
This year, I was accepted into National Honor Society. IN National Honor Society gives students with outstranding acedemic scores the opportunity to collaborate with others to benefit and support the community by providing service to those who need it. During this year, we created events to raise money for organizations.
Kawinis Club
This year, I participated in Kawanis Club, also known as Key Club. Kawanis Club is also an international coeducation service club that each year raises money to help strengthen communities and help children. Funraisers and events are held and created by members of key club to help organizations such as UNICEF. This year, we created a game night for students to raise money for the Ronald McDonald's house. We also helped make blankets for children in the hospitals. Many events were held to help those in need.
Senate Bill 112 (Matthew's Bill)
During this year, we advocated for the passing of Matthew's Bill. We wrote to our respresentives and created campaign products to show our support and get others to support the bill so that it could be passed. Matthew's Bill was written by the previous Juniors who saw there was a problem in society when those with disabilities did not have access to public restrooms due to limited space, opposite genders taking each other and could not enter into a restrooms for one gender. Care takers and family would have to take the individuals home or in their cars to change them. With this issue, those with disabilities stuck out in society and felt trapped and unequal. Those who felt this was an issue wrote letters using legal documentation to support the claim that there should be restrooms for those with disabilities so they could be accepted in their community.
